Yep, that's the site of these photos.
On the way back, I stopped to watch the daily Parade of Contractors at the Downyflake donut shop. You think I'm kidding, but the parking lot is jammed with them at 7AM or so. The other day a policeman was running a speed trap across the street from the Downyflake (must keep roads safe for baked goods!). Alas, I couldn't line up both in a decent photo.
I'm told that these areas are the result of controlled burns done to benefit endangered species like the northern harrier and short-eared owl (also many plant species).
As it happens, I'm not actually out here on vacation. Sue's employer provides coverage to the hospital here, so from time to time one of them is cruelly forced to endure an entire week on Nantucket. My employer was kind enough to allow me to work remotely so that I could share the hardship. And yes, I am getting work done. :-)


Looks like ideal habitat for dwarf puma as well.
