The FDA's war on chocolate

The FDA, through indolence and inaction, has allowed the various recent spinach, ground beef, peanut butter, and pet food contamination incidents to occur*. Now they're starting to play an active role - in adulterating our nation's precious chocolate supply.

I wish I was making this up. Some major industry players (as yet unnamed) have decided they would like to be able to use vegetable oil instead of cocoa butter in the manufacture of chocolate. No word yet on how much this will save them, but my bet is that none of these savings will be passed on to the consumer. Honestly, is there anything, anything at all, that this crew won't do for a buck? Now they're even stealing candy from children (ok, the rest of us too). But they're not even brave enough to come right out into the open and steal it honestly. Nope, they're doing it with regulations.
