Jacoby vs Logic (again)

petardierI just can't refrain from writing to the Globe when Jeff Jacoby has another run-in with his arch-enemy - Logic!
Anyway, it hasn't showed up in the Globe yet, so I'm making sure someone sees it.
Mr Jacoby asserted that Iraqi militants have been emboldened to make more attacks recently by speeches in Congress that he perceives as showing weakness. One could with equal logic suggest that we were attacked on 9/11 due to weakness shown by President Bush.
Since logic does not appear to be Mr Jacoby's strong suit, let me make it clear immediately that I don't think either assertion is true. One event following another is no guarantee of causality. If Mr Jacoby has actual proof of cause and effect in this case, shouldn't he share it with the authorities so that something could be done? Instead, he choses to berate the Democrats who are trying to exercise the oversight that Republicans have been unwilling or unable to supply for four long years.
