Overheard on NPR
Mar. 26th, 2007 10:48 pmThe other night I was driving somewhere and listening to NPR while Anne Lamott was being interviewed. I'm ambivalent about Anne Lamott. She sometimes has wise and interesting things to say, but she can also be very self-involved.
Anyhow, the statement that caught my attention was something along the lines of, "The opposite of faith is not doubt. It is certainty." She was talking about the religious right at the time, but I don't remember the exact context.
Clearly this was one of her wise and interesting nights.
