Where do I get my information from? Here's a few sources I've found useful. First and foremost, there's Google. In the unlikely event you don't know it already, the link is.

Don't forget the News tab if you're searching for news stories on a particular topic.

Here's a couple of web sites that have frequent postings that analyze current events and subtract out the spin from the stories. Both are reasonably non-partisan; they criticize both sides.

http://www.dailyhowler.com/

The Daily Howler is quite hard on reporters who don't do their homework or who have an obvious agenda. The authors of both sites have written books that are probably worth reading. I haven't got to them yet though. Have you?
