Back from Spain

I'm back from hiking in the Picos de Europa, which as anyone in Asturias will tell you, are NOT the Pyrenees. We did about 100k in 7 days with some pretty serious elevation changes and saw some fantastic views. Sample photos available soon.

In other news, we have a new cat. Have a look.

I think that the Siamesey appearance is just an illusion. From her tenacity in chasing and hanging onto string, I've become convinced that she's actually part rottweiler. Despite the multi-colored glowing eyes, there's no demon in her background (I hope).

Welcome back! I look forward to seeing your pictures.

She's lovely! She looks like a blue point. What's her name?

The name is currently under discussion. Her original name, Cupcake, must go. My first suggestion, Meatloaf, a tribute to an old Kliban cat cartoon and a reference to her color, has been turned down as disrespectful. We're jokingly refering to her as Gordita when writing to the woman we adopted her from. Kato has been suggested, but perhaps only so that we can tell her, "Not now, Kato" with a bad Peter Sellers French accent. We'll work something out eventually.

We know she's mostly oriental, but we don't have the full origin story. I guess we can say she's whatever kind of point we like. Perhaps an Ozistan emerald point?

sounds like a great trip. Also a cute cat/dog/string! :)

I am so glad you have a cat again. Gordita isn't too bad, as names go. Speak of her origins! And thanks for the postcard!

My latest post reveals her new name - much more dignified than Gordita. She came to us from a friend of a friend who had inherited two cats from a family member not able to take care of them. She was friendly and playful, so we adopted her.

She's siamese. All hope is lost . . .

She may not be full Siamese. She's darker than the usual Siamese and not as thin as the usual Siamese. Some of that is excess weight, but she is bigger-boned than most Siamese I've seen. She has the Siamese voice, but doesn't use it incessantly Apart from an obsession with chasing string, she's shown no signs of the crazyness attributed to some Siamese. Quirky perhaps, but not crazy.
