17th century French hurdy-gurdy
You know you're in the Harvard Square T station when ...
the musician is playing a replica of a 17th century French hurdy-gurdy. It's a bit like a large 6 string violin, but with a crank and keys to finger.

What he was playing while nobody way paying much attention could have gotten monotonous. When I talked with him, he played something faster with more vigorous bowing. The instrument clearly has possibilities.
