Slower than a speeding bicycle!
That was how slow my Green Line train was this morning. There was clearly something wrong with it because it had not been travelling at normal speeds earlier in the trip. After the Longwood stop, the speed was absurdly slow. We were passed by a number of cyclists on what I think was the Muddy River bike path. All passengers were booted off the train at Fenway.
Why was that train even on the tracks to begin with? They should certainly have know there was something wrong by Reservoir, where there's room to switch out trains. And then there was the ridiculous apology. "Please pardon us for any inconvenience". Wrong! Next time, please try "We apologize for the inconvenience." Your passengers might not be in a pardoning mood after a half speed ride interrupted by balky starts and delays.
It's just the T's bad luck that I'm fresh back from Tokyo. I've seen how public transit can work when there's the will (and funding) for it. Even on a good day, the Boston public transit does not compare favorably with Tokyo - and this wasn't a good day.

Jake and I were on the C train yesterday and OMG...it was insanely packed and pretty much a sauna. And of course it suddenly emptied out once we hit Kenmore. How long has Fenway been there? Like, almost 100 years? You'd think the MBTA would figure out they need to run MORE trains on ALL the lines that go through Fenway, not just the D trains...
